PDF to Excel Test Overview
This test was initially performed for internal testing and we quickly realized that sharing this information would be informative. In our tests, we chose three table-based PDF files of varying complexity to compare deskUNPDF Professional versus two heavily marketed competitors. The metrics which we measured in the PDF to Excel conversion were time to complete the conversion (conversion time), file size, and accuracy. The summary of our findings are listed in the PDF to Excel Summary.
We felt accuracy was not quantifiable, but certainly apparent when looking at the converted Excel file, so rather than rank ourselves we included the sample PDF's as well as the converted files in the table below to let everyone make their own assessment.
PDF to Excel Accuracy
There is a lot to consider when trying to extract table data from a PDF. You want to be assured that the values will be placed consistently into an .xls spreadsheet, the formatting to be as close to the original as possible, and you want the headings to be aligned properly to minimize confusion. The conversions below show how well deskUNPDF Professional does compared to the competition.
